The best baby swing is most useful in the first few months of the baby. Some baby swings have weight limits of 24 to 30 pounds. However, most manufacturers recommend the stopping of the use of a swing either when a baby weights between 15 and 25 pounds or when a baby begins to roll over or push up.

With a baby that responds well to the rocking of the mimicking best baby swing, the swing can provide parents with some much needed quiet, hands free time during the exhausting period of taking care of a newborn baby.

The speed and motion of the best baby swing is another point for consideration. While most swings move back and forth, there are some cradle versions that offer a side to side rocking motion that a baby may find to be more soothing for him.

The best baby swing should have the ability of folding and disassembling easily for storage or travelling purposes. It must have the seal of approval from the Juvenile Products Manufacturers' Association a.k.a. JPMA. Because drooling, spitting up and diaper overflowing are common in the early months of a baby, the swing seat must come with a removable and washable cover.

Even when a baby is in the best baby swing, parents still have to supervise the time he spends in it and always keep the safety harness buckled. Any small part of the swing, including the toy bars, must always be securely and safely connected. Anything loose can get into the mouth of the baby that could eventually lead to choking.

The best baby swing may help a baby fall asleep in instances when he has a cold or some breathing issues. However, it is best to consult a pediatrician before doing so as the fact remains that a crib is still the best place for a baby to sleep in.
