Fun Easy DIY Projects To Do Outside

By Jaclyn Hurley

Just about everyone loves to spend time outdoors. It is wonderful to come home after a busy day at work and enjoy some fresh air and relaxation. Having a nice outdoor space also adds value to the home. Doing some fun easy DIY projects is a great way to increase the equity in the home and spend quality time with the family.

Young children really benefit from being outside as much as possible. Parents are now very aware of how important it is to get the kids out from in front of the television or computer and have them running around in the fresh air. Seeing the kids playing at pirates or space aliens is great, they are using their imagination and staying fit and healthy. With this in mind many parents are now devoting time and money to creating a great outdoor space for the children to enjoy.

The key to success really is with good planning. If possible as much of the furniture as possible should be removed from the room. This makes it so much easier to work in. Strong plastic drop clothes are also necessary as they protect the floor and carpeting. The walls and wood work need to be washed with a light cleaning solution to remove dust and other debris. Any dents or rough patches should also be sanded down to provide a smooth surface.

Installing ceiling fans is a great way to stay cool in summer as well as save some money. Running air conditioning all the time really bumps up the electricity bill. Many people find that they can manage all but the hottest weather with just fans. Most of the big home improvement stores sell a wonderful variety of fans, in different sizes and colors. One of the biggest tasks is to decide exactly which one will work best with the home's decor.

Laying tile is another easy job that can actually be fun. Starting with a small room such as a bathroom or entrance way is recommended. Basement utility rooms can also be a quick project to get started. One of the main things to keep in mind again is that good preparation is the key. The floor must be really level before the tile is set. A thin layer of quick set cement is typically the fastest way to achieve the desired surface.

Assembling a kids play fort or swing set is another very easy and satisfying job. Many people realize that they can save a lot of money by doing the work themselves, rather than paying the store to do it for them. Reading the directions carefully is one of the most important things to keep in mind. Along with checking to ensure that all the parts are in the box before work starts.

A novice do it yourself enthusiast should never be afraid to ask for help. If they realize they are running into problems it is best to call a more knowledgeable friend right away. Often a more experienced eye can spot the issue quickly and get things back on track before they become too much of a mess. Waiting too long to ask for help is not a good idea.

Once they have successfully completed their first job, however small it may be, most people are keen to move on to something else. Progress should be in small increments that allow one skill to build on another. Before they know it many people are ready to tackle a big job such as a kitchen renovation.
